1st to the 4th September 2017 saw Scouts, adult leaders and some parents board the plane at Malta International Airport for an adventure at Trapani on the beautiful island of Sicily.
Here is a short summary of what happened:
Day 1: Scouts from Mtarfa, Qormi, Mgarr and St Pauls Bay gathered at the airport at 13:00 in readiness for departure later that afternoon, after checking everyone had their passports and the correct luggage allowance we were off! Through airport security into the departure lounge for a short wait before boarding the aircraft. We took off on time and after a short flight we landed safely at Trapani airport.
Once all luggage was collected we made our way out. Met by George Mangion we were directed to a waiting coach. The weather was fine, sunny and warm, all the same at least one member of our party (Mark Spice!) was grateful for the air conditioning...
A 30 minute drive saw us arrive at our temporary home from home. The premises of a local Sea Scout crew very generously loaned to us for the weekend.
The next job was to set up camp in the grounds, we were split between indoor bunk bend accommodation and tents outside.
Mgarr Sea Scouts found themselves a nice niche and quickly built a bivouac. Others pitched tents which we were allowed to borrow.
All this took a little longer than expected but eventually we were able to cook our evening meal and eventually we all went to bed around midnight!
Day 2: Up early and breakfast.. We had some free time before a coach came to pick us up at 11:00. This time was filled with kayaking ably supervised by Victor Brincat, those who didn't want to kayak went swimming instead.
Back to the campsite for around 10 where we showered and got ready for our first outing which was to an adventure park near Erice. We arrived there and after a walk up a very steep hill, we were met by a local Scout. Those that wanted to try the activity were kitted out with harnesses and then taken for some instruction.
The park was geared up as an aerial obstacle course, there were different levels of difficulty according to age and ability, good exercise was had by all and all who took part enjoyed themselves!
Lunch was provided and opportunities to buy ice creams were taken advantage of..!
The plan for the afternoon was to take a cable car ride up to Erice and explore the town, sadly the cable car wasn't working so we were unable to do this activity. Instead we went back to the camp site where free time was given and evening meal was prepared.
An early night was on the cards as we had an early start the next morning...
